How to make the giant DMOZ work for your business

You may have heard, and read lots, of topics about linkbacks. A linkback is simply a link from one website to another. If another website links to you it is known as a linkback.

Google's alogorithm has shown linkbacks to be a big factor on where your website appears in the search engines pages. There are three things to consider when looking at linkbacks:

1. The more linkbacks the better;

2. If the website linking to you is themed or related in content it will be deemed more relevant;

3. The more trusted a website is, the more relevant the search engines will consider the linkback;

You will probably need to know the best places to start obtaining linkbacks. One way is to look at the mighty DMOZ. DMOZ is the largest manually written directory on the internet. DMOZ, owned by Netscape, has (at time of writing) over 4 million websites listed and maintained by over 75,000 editors. Getting your website listed in DMOZ is no easy task. The 75,000 editors look after seperate categories and areas of the site, some editors can approve and list websites within days/weeks. Some may take months.

DMOZ is well respected within the search engine industry, many of them use DMOZ's database for their own listings, so a link from DMOZ can prove extremely beneficial.

Submitting to DMOZ is relatively simple:

1. Visit http://www.dmoz.org

2. Search through the categories to find the most relevant page for your website to be shown

3. At the foot of the page follow the 'Add URL' link

4. Complete the form
