5 Killer Tips to increase website conversions for Small Businesses
Your website should be a large part of your business particuarly if you take payments or enquires online. You check your stats but despite an average number of visitors your conversions are low.At this point don't panic. Help turn those browsers in to customers in five simple steps:
1. Contact Information
Surpringly many small business owners make it very difficult for potential customers to contact them. Links to contact pages buried deep in inner pages, or in small text along the footer of the page.Make it big, make it brass and make it bold. The more you can attract your visitors to be able to contact you the more visitors you can turn in to customers.
2. Don't accept poor web design
Many small business decide to start on a shoestring with their website. Some opting to design themselves with cheap build-it-yourself packages whilst others ask teenage friends or family. The internet should be taken seriously and with respect. Would you ask your friends teenager to design your store and layout your stock? No.
Often the main reason for a lack of conversions is bad design and poor navigation. Don't fall in to this trap!
If you are unsure how your website is perceived visit various web design or business forums and ask. Often other designers or business owners are only to happy to offer advice and even suggestions!
3. Check Your Stats
Very important point. Your stats will tell you a lot about your visitors search patterns. if you don't have a stat tool try either www.statcounter.com or www.google.com/analytics both are free and offer a vast range of tools.- Are your visitors finding you from good and related resource? Do you need to find better or related link partners?
- Is there a certain page your visitors tend to leave your site on? Does it need improvement, more information, better navigation?
- Does the visitor browse your pages, or leave the home page quicker than they arrived?
Once you can investigate how your visitors have found you, and what page they are leaving on, you will be able to build a picture of how to make changes to improve your web conversions.
4. Market research
No better way to determine what your visitors think of your website than your visitors themselves. You could set up a questionnaire for your visitors asking them their opinions and in return offer a competition prize, free sample etc...
The information received could prove invaluable plus you will have a chance to capture email addresses to build your online newsletter database.
5. Time's running out!
Some very reputable retailers on the net offer time limited offers in order to encourage purchases. If a customer feels they can only take advantage of a particular offer for a limited amount of time it has shown to produce a favourable response, particuarly for impulse buyers!A very catchy way to do this is add a time counter ticking down the time left on the offer. Again another way to encourage impulse buyers.
